Nicki is Clinical Specialist in Neurophysiotherapy. She has 30 years experience as a Physiotherapist, mostly with complex neurological patients. This has included working with complex patients in both in-patient and out-patient settings across the spectrum of acute neurological conditions to long term neurological disability and working closely with teams in the community.

Nicki works as the clinical specialist physiotherapist in neurology working in in-patient setting, being responsible for assessing and treating a wide range of patients with complex needs, leading and providing supervisory support to other therapists and staff. Her role involves assessment of patients to determine their rehabilitation potential, develop and implement therapy programmes to achieve the best possible physical skills outcome, make appropriate referrals to other services and advise other staff on the best management options.

Nicki also works as the lead specialist therapist on the stroke unit, She is the rehabilitation lead for patients with metastatic spinal cord compression and works with patients with all acquired and non-acquired and congenital neurological (including brain and spinal injuries) and vestibular conditions within an out-patient setting. Mrs Hatton works closely with the community neurological rehabilitation team and neurologists as an independent senior clinician and has the responsibility for the assessment, treatment and follow-up of a large cohort of patients.

Nicki has experience of working in regional neurological rehabilitation unit as a Head Physiotherapist with responsibility for treatment and rehabilitation of complex neurological patients with head injuries, spinal conditions and a wide range of neurological conditions being referred from the tertiary centres across Greater Manchester area.

She has also developed a speciality in treating and supporting the MDT with patients with functional neurological disorder (FND). She is a member of the Greater Manchester (GM) Major Trauma Rehab Subgroup and is also involved in the GM FND pathway.

Nicki is experienced in setting rehabilitation goals and improved outcome measures for the patients she has been responsible for and has led development of various clinical pathways and treatment protocols to achieve improved rehabilitation outcomes and standards of practice. She has had responsibility to ensure staff adhere to the standards of practice and improve clinical governance and evidence based practice to improve clinical standards. She has been instrumental in many practice development initiatives. She has supervised many senior neurological physiotherapists and trained several physiotherapists and other members of the multi-disciplinary teams.

In her spare time, when she gets any, Nicki enjoys taking her dog on long walks, go cycling or occasionally kayaking and swimming as well as eating out.She is gradually working on delegating more tasks to her husband and two grown up boys to enable her to have time to partake in these activities (this continues to be a work in progress!)
